Can Ayurvedic Herbs Help Me?

Ayurvedic herbs are an important component in the healing art of Ayurveda which seeks to integrate the mind and body so that they act together to maintain good health. Ayurvedic herbs are used singularly or in special combinations to both prevent and cure illnesses that afflict the body.

Many of the Ayurvedic herbs taken by themselves serve to alleviate the symptoms of specific health problems. The chart below shows some of the most popular:

Ayurvedic Herbs and Conditions

Shatavari…………………….Menopause, ulcers
Bibitaki…………………………Chronic constipation
Ashoka…………………………Female reproductive disorders

Ayurvedic herbs are also available for the treatment of hair loss, high blood pressure, balancing sugar, circulation problems and many other conditions caused when the body is not functioning properly. A practitioner of Ayurveda can recommend specific herbal treatments for most debilitating health issues.

Through the centuries that Ayurveda has been practiced, the most knowledgeable men and women practicing this natural system of healing, which first gained ground in India, have discovered the value of combining several Ayurvedic herbs to enhance their benefit in fine tuning the body. Many of these herbal combinations can be purchased in health food stores in convenient forms which make them easy to take. A few of these combined herbal formulas are listed below:

  • Gasex, containing black pepper, cumin, and asafetida is useful for gas and bloating.
  • Digestive Fire, with pipalli, ginger, and black pepper removes toxins and burns fat.
  • Joint Formula combines boswellia, ginger, turmeric, aswagandha to reduce inflammation.
  • Immune Force, containing echinacea and turmeric, defends against allergies and infections.
  • Sitopaladi has rock candy, cinnamon, banslochan, pippali, and cardamom to alleviate congestion.

These are just a few of the Ayurvedic herbal combinations available to naturally promote good health and bring healing. Ayurvedic practitioners can create specific formulas for individual maladies which will bring the system back into balance and allow the body’s immune system to do its job.

Sometimes Ayurvedic herbs are taken internally, but at other times, they are used in oils which are smoothed onto the skin to get the desired result. Some have antifungal and antibacterial properties; many energize the system; some calm it. This ancient method of healing contains Ayurvedic herbs which are similar in function to almost every drug available in modern medicine, and most treatments result in fewer side effects.
